Both of these countries are also known for their rich history and culture. Nature, mountains, and unique and vibrant culture—Nepal and Bhutan offer couples some beautiful experiences that they can cherish forever.

Honeymoon Tour in Nepal

Nestled between China and India Nepal is a landlocked country sheltered by some of the highest mountains in the world. For those who love mountains, Nepal is the best honeymoon destination. This tiny country has a diverse topography, with high Himalayan mountains towards the north, tropical jungles in the middle hills, and the plain Terai lowlands towards the south. From cold arctic deserts to the lush tropical forests, one can experience a diverse landscape and climatic zones in this country.

Apart from its topographical diversity, Nepal is also known for its rich and diverse culture. It’s history dates back to more than two thousand years. The country is dotted with ancient Hindu and Buddhist religious sites and is a major pilgrimage hub. Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, also lies in Nepal.

Nepal is one of the most tourist-friendly destinations in the world. As tourism is a major revenue earner and employment generator, the government in turn has implemented tourist-friendly policies to attract more visitors to this Himalayan nation. Nepal is also one of the safest destinations, especially for female tourists. For couples, the beautiful hills and scenic sites offer a perfect haven for romance. There are resorts and hotels that offer packages especially designed for couples on their honeymoon. From attractions and activities to accommodation choices, Nepal has much to offer for honeymoon couples.

How to Plan a Honeymoon Tour in Nepal?

You can explore Nepal on your own or book a tour with a travel company. In my opinion, for a hassle-free honeymoon, it’s better to book a tour with a reputed company that will handle the logistics for you. Depending on your interests, you can choose the destinations and activities you would like to indulge in with your spouse. If you wish to spend some time together in the lap of nature, then you can choose the popular lakeside city of Pokhara or the hill stations of Bandipur, Dhulikhel, Nagarkot, or Daman.

To make your honeymoon memorable, you can try out once-in-a-lifetime experiences with your partner, like the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour, Mount Everest Heli Trek, Wildlife Safari at Bardiya or Chitwan National Park, Hot Air Ballooning above the Himalayan Peaks, or Skydiving.

Nepal is one of the few tourist-friendly and affordable holiday destinations in Asia where tourists can easily get a visa on arrival. Except for the nationals of some African and middle-eastern countries, Nepal offers visas on arrival to all tourists, provided they fulfill the requirement to obtain a visa.

While there are direct flights to Nepal from Europe, North America, and most western countries, this tiny Himalayan country shares air connectivity from the major Asian and middle-eastern flying hubs.

March to May and September to early December are the best months to visit Nepal. During these months, the weather remains generally pleasant. The skies remain clear, and you can enjoy crystal-clear views of the snow-covered Himalayan mountains.

While the city tours (Pokhara and Kathmandu) can be done any time of the year, one should bear in mind that summer can be wet and stormy, while winter can be pretty chilly for those not used to cold weather.

Pokhara

The lakeside city of Pokhara is a favorite destination for honeymoon couples. This beautiful city has one of the most scenic locations in the whole of Nepal. Pokhara, sitting beside the peaceful Phewa Lake and flanked by the snowcapped Fishtail Peak and the Annapurna Range, promises a blissful stay. The city lies in a green valley surrounded by verdant hills and quaint traditional villages. Phewa Lake, Gupteshwar Cave, Peace Stupa, Bindyabasini Temple, International Mountain Museum, and Sarangkot are some of the major attractions of Pokhara.

One can also enjoy a day-hike to one of the surrounding lookout points and enjoy a breathtaking sunrise or sunset.

Paragliding, ziplining, ultralight flight, hot air ballooning, bungy jumping, skydiving, and boating are some of the activities you can enjoy while in Pokhara. There are also scores of day hiking trails across Pokhara that take you to picturesque spots from where you can enjoy a bird's-eye view of the city and the Annapurna Range.

Being a tourist hub, Pokhara offers an amazing range of accommodation options. Resorts and hotels offer honeymoon suites with special privileges for newlywed couples.

Kathmandu

While central Kathmandu can be chaotic and crowded and not ideal for a honeymoon vacation, there are places at the fringes of the city that offer a calm and serene atmosphere. Kathmandu is also home to seven UNESCO World Heritage sites, which makes this a must-visit destination for couples who share a deep interest in history, art, and culture.

Patan, Bhaktapur, and Basantapur, or Kathmandu, are the ancient medieval cities inside Kathmandu Valley where one can discover some of the ancient cultural heritage sites. For an immersive and unforgettable experience, one can plan their vacation during one of the colorful and vibrant festivals like Holi, Indra Jatra, Tihar, or Teej.

If you are into yoga and meditation, there are several resorts around Kathmandu that offer yoga and meditation retreats. The retreats are held far away from the city (Gokarna, Namo Buddha, Shivapuri, Nagarjun, etc.), in the midst of greenery.

The three medieval durbar squares of Patan, Bhaktapur, and Kathmandu, Swoyambhunath Stupa, Boudhanath, Pashupatinath Temple, Changunarayan Temple, and Chandragiri Hill are some of the cultural attractions of Nepal’s capital city.

One can also enjoy a food tour while exploring this interesting city. Likewise, if you love cooking, you can take a fun-filled cooking class with your partner where you will be taught to prepare Nepali delicacies like momo, chatamari, sel roti, etc. by a trained chef.

Nagarkot

Situated on the outskirts of Kathmandu, Nagarkot is a quaint hamlet. The settlement is perched atop a hill with breathtaking views of the Himalayas. Nagarkot, surrounded by lush vegetation and traditional farms, is a great spot to unwind with your spouse after a hectic marriage ceremony. The place also provides a much-needed break from the mayhem and smog of Kathmandu.

The stunning dawns and sunsets of Nagarkot are a major draw for tourists. You can observe Mount Everest and other Himalayan summits from here. Nagarkot is one of the few spots close to Kathmandu valley from where you can view Mount Everest.

Nagarkot, with its unspoiled scenery, gorgeous vistas of the mountains, and mesmerizing dawn and dusk is ideal for romance.

Bandipur

Bandipur, lined with traditional brick houses, has the ambiance of a quaint European town. A Newari heritage town, Bandipur is one of the best-preserved gems in Nepal. This charming town used to be an important trading hub in the bygone days when the salt trade route to Tibet was still open. Originally a Magar village, Bandipur was transformed into a trading town after the arrival of Newari merchants from the Kathmandu valley. Most of the houses and mansions lining the streets of Bandipur were built by these Newari merchants during the early eighteenth century. You may get a glimpse of Nepal’s past by visiting Bandipur.

To preserve the historic buildings, the government has banned the entry of vehicles inside the main town. After the hustle and bustle of the main cities, Bandipur’s serene and laidback vibe acts as a balm to your senses.

Bandipur is conveniently located between Kathmandu and Pokhara. It takes about three hour’s drive from Pokhara to reach this medieval town. From Kathmandu, it takes about six or seven hours to reach the town by vehicle.to reach the town by vehicle.

Perched on a saddle within the Mahabharat Range, Bandipur offers breathtaking vistas of the snow-capped Himalayan mountains. The main attractions of this beautiful town include the hilltop shrine of goddess Thani Mai, Siddi Gufa (Nepal’s largest cave), Bandipur Monastery, and the old town library built by the Rana aristocrats. You also have the option to take a short hike and explore the nearby Magar villages. The streets of Bandipur are lined with eateries that offer traditional Newari delicacies on their menu. You can try out the unique Newari cuisine while on a stroll through the town.

Dhulikhel

Like Nagarkot, Dhulikhel is also a popular resort town that lies close to Kathmandu. An ancient Newari town, Dhulikhel, lies on the Nepal-Tibet highway. Surrounded by emerald hills and traditional villages, Dhulikhel offers panoramic views of the Himalayan range. The resorts around Dhulikhel are located on hilltops and ridges that offer fantastic views of the snow-clad mountains. Dhulikhel’s rosy sunrises and sunsets appear magical and are worth experiencing. Apart from short day hikes, there are not many activities you can engage in Dhulikhel. This is a sleepy town where you can relax and chill with your partner surrounded by nature.

Daman

Daman is a hillside town that offers an amazing view of the Himalayas. The town lies about eighty-eight kilometers from Kathmandu, along the Kathmandu-Hetauda highway. Located in a calm and serene environment, far away from the maddening crowd, Daman offers the perfect respite for couples looking for a romantic getaway. Surrounded by nature, couples can enjoy intimate moments without any disturbance.

Winter brings snowfall, allowing for a white and cozy honeymoon. Since this town is situated in the midst of nature, there’s nothing much to do. One can explore the neighboring villages or hike along one of the trails leading to a vantage point. If you love cycling, then there are some thrilling downhills that you can experience on a mountain bike.

Ghandruk

Ghandruk is a Gurung village that lies close to Pokhara. It is one of the most picturesque villages on the Annapurna trail.  The Annapurna Base Camp Trek begins from here. Ghandruk village is part of the Gurung Heritage Trail and offers a glimpse of traditional Gurung culture and lifestyle. One can also enjoy close-up views of some of the mighty Himalayan giants from this village. The majestic spires of Annapurna I (8091 m), Gangapurna (7455 m), Huinchuli (6441 m), Annapurna South (7219 m), etc. can be seen from the village.

Since this village is an important stop for trekkers, there are a lot of accommodation options at this village. One can choose to stay at a quaint teahouse that is part of an extended family home or at a modern, recently constructed lodge.

Attractions at the village include the local museums showcasing Gurung culture and lifestyle, a Buddhist monastery, and the old section of the village lined with limewashed traditional stone cottages.

Poon Hill – Ghorepani

Nepal is known for its beautiful trekking routes, and a short Himalayan trek is highly recommended if you love hiking. The Ghorepani-Poon Hill trek, which lasts for only three days (could be longer if you choose a longer route), offers you an amazing Himalayan trekking experience filled with mind-blowing vistas of the Himalayan peaks and rhododendron forests. The trek takes you through the world’s largest rhododendron forest and Gurung and Magar villages. The trek culminates with a hike to Poon Hill, which offers a spectacular 360-degree view of the Himalayan range.

A newly constructed rough jeep track offers you the option of taking a jeep ride to Ghorepani if you find the hike tiresome and want to skip it.

Namche Bazaar

Namche Bazaar is known as the capital of the Sherpas, an ethnic community renowned for their superior climbing skills. Namche Bazaar lies in the Solu Khumbu Region and is part of the popular Everest Base Camp trekking trail. Sitting at an altitude of 3440 meters, there is no road access to this mountainous town. One needs to take a mountain flight from Kathmandu to Lukla and thereafter trek for two days to reach Namche. A shorter and more luxurious option is to charter a helicopter flight and fly directly from Kathmandu to Namche.

Carved on a steep mountainside, Namche offers splendid views of some of the highest mountains in the world. Staying in Namche would be like spending time at an amphitheater surrounded by dramatic views of jagged snow-covered mountains.

Since this is an important acclimatization stop on the Everest trail, the town is filled with teahouses, lodges, restaurants, cafes, pubs, and bakeries. Attractions around the town include the Sherpa Culture Museum, Sagarmata Next (an art gallery and an experience center that promotes sustainable mountain tourism and waste management), and the Hotel Everest viewpoint.

There are a few luxury hotels like the Hotel Everest View and Yeti Mountain Home where you can book a stay to make your honeymoon memorable. For a once-in-a-lifetime experience, you can choose the luxurious Everest Heli Tour or the EBC Heli Trek. The heli tour includes a helicopter flight from Kathmandu to Everest Base Camp with a short halt at Namche; while the heli trek involves trekking from Lukla to Namche Bazaar and taking a helicopter flight to Everest Base Camp and back to Kathmandu.

There are special honeymoon packages on offer where couples can enjoy a celebratory lunch with champagne after flying from Everest Base Camp to Namche.
