Top FAQS About Everest Region

1. What is the best time to trek in the Everest region?

The best time to do high altitude trekking in the Everest region is during spring and autumn or fall. March to May is spring in Nepal. Moreover, spring is the most colorful time of the year as trees along the trail will be filled with colorful rhododendron blooms. The weather will be clear and you could enjoy the stunning mountain views. But there lies a chance of light rainfall and haze obstructing the views.

Autumn falls from September to November in Nepal. The weather will be clear and visibility will be high. It is the post-monsoon period so there lies very little chance of rainfall. Autumn and spring both are high season so you need to be prepared for a crowd on the trail.

2. What kind of food is served along the trail?

Teahouses or guesthouses along the trail serve a variety of food. The food menu is mostly similar and features momos or dumplings, chow Mein, pasta, porridge, etc. You can also get bakery items like cakes, pies, and others at Namche Bazaar. It is best to stick to a vegetarian meal during the trek as meat products aren’t fresh and flow to the Everest region.

Do try the famous Dal Bhat of Nepal which is a platter of steamed rice, lentil soup, greens, fresh vegetables, and pickle.  Do tell your guide about your dietary restrictions if any so that they can prepare food for you accordingly.

3. What is the weight limit of luggage for a Lukla flight?

You are allowed a maximum weight of 15 kgs (10 kg luggage + 5kg handbag) per person including the handbag during a Lukla flight. So, pack for your Everest trek wisely and if you exceed the weight limit you will be charged as per the rate of your airlines.

4. Why do Lukla flights get delay or cancel?

The weather needs to be clear for a flight to and from Lukla. The weather of high mountain is unpredictable so flights can’t operate until the weather gets clear. Flight can be delayed for some hours but very bad weather can delay flights for days. If you don’t want to wait for a domestic flight then you can fly out of Lukla on a helicopter for an additional cost. It will be wise to keep buffer days.

5. Do I need to buy travel insurance?

Travel insurance is a must for a high altitude trek in the Everest region. You are going for a Himalayan adventure. Travel insurance will give you peace of mind. God forbid if you suffer from altitude sickness, meet any accidents or need emergency evacuation then travel insurance will be of big help. Moreover, make sure than your travel insurance covers helicopter evacuation among other things. With travel insurance, you will be worrying less enjoying more.
