Punakha is located at the western part of Bhutan. During the 17th century Bhutan was attacked several times by Tibet.Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal led the Bhutanese to victory and ever since this festival is celebrated. During this festival the dramatic events of the battle with the Tibetans are reenacted. This festival gives an opportunity for all Bhutanese to feel proud of their rich history. The festival reflect the richness of the Bhutanese tradition and is very special in the eyes of the Bhutanese and the tourists who visit Bhutan during this period.
