The heart of Nepal

Kathmandu-Swyambhunath-stupa

Kathmandu lies in a deep valley surrounded by magnificent hills all around. The city stands at an elevation of 1400 meters above sea level. One of the three medieval cities of Kathmandu Valley, this historic city is the capital of Nepal. Kathmandu is home to seven of the ten UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the country. The cultural world heritage sites include Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, Swayambhunath Temple, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Patan Durbar Square, Bhaktapur Durbar Square and Changu Narayan Temple. Surrounding the city are verdant hills which offer great opportunities for day hikes, nature tours, and mountain biking adventures. Charming Newari farming villages dot the outskirts of the capital city. Kathmandu is also the economic and political center of the country. While the city abounds in ancient monuments and shrines, new high-rises are rapidly covering the city’s landscape.
