Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Yogesh Bhattarai, has said that Simikot Airport in Humla is as important as Lukla in Solukhumbu.

Arriving at Simikot in Humla on Tuesday, he said that the airport was similar to Lukla in terms of tourist importance.

Simikot is the gateway for Indian travelers to Mansarovar. Every year more than 30,000 tourists visit Mansarovar through this airport.

During the season, the airlines in Nepalgunj-Simikot and Simikot-Hilsa earn a decent income. Minister Yogesh Bhattarai has also expressed a commitment to developing the airport as a tourist hub.

He said that Humla should be developed as a religious and cultural hub. "The culture here is unique in nature, so it is necessary to promote cultural tourism," Bhattarai said.
