Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Yogesh Bhattarai, has said that Simikot Airport in Humla is as important as Lukla in Solukhumbu.
Arriving at Simikot in Humla on Tuesday, he said that the airport was similar to Lukla in terms of tourist importance.
Simikot is the gateway for Indian travelers to Mansarovar. Every year more than 30,000 tourists visit Mansarovar through this airport.
During the season, the airlines in Nepalgunj-Simikot and Simikot-Hilsa earn a decent income. Minister Yogesh Bhattarai has also expressed a commitment to developing the airport as a tourist hub.
He said that Humla should be developed as a religious and cultural hub. "The culture here is unique in nature, so it is necessary to promote cultural tourism," Bhattarai said.

Inquire NowHe urged to develop of the infrastructure by making a master plan of Humla, keeping in view the diversity of tourism. He also expressed the commitment of the ministry to extend all possible support for the development of Humla's tourism sector.
He also instructed to speed up the construction of aprons and parking lot at Simikot Airport. Constituency MP Chakka Bahadur Lama has demanded to expand the airport to accommodate 45-seat aircraft at Simikot Airport.
Chief District Officer of Humla, Chiranjivi Giri, has informed Minister Bhattarai that there are maternity and sick problems and telephone problems as they are not connected to the national road network.
