Starting from Thamel, you can enjoy the walk browsing through an ancient traditional Newari market of Ason, Indrachowk, and Kathmandu Durbar Square, also known as Basantapur. The Durbar Square is a meditative and religious site, surrounded by courtyards, ancient statues, temples, small ponds, and fountains.
