Sankhu, Nagarkot, and Changunarayan 2-day hike is one of the best hikes on the outskirts of Kathmandu. Nagarkot sits atop a verdant hill framed by an endless chain of rolling green hills and towering peaks. Nagarkot is famous for its spectacular sunrise and panoramic Himalayan views. Nestled in a wooded hill lies Changu Narayan Temple, one of the most ancient Hindu temples in the world and a UNESCO world heritage site in Nepal. Sankhu is a beautiful Newari town and is home to Bajrayogini temple.
The trip begins with a short drive to Sankhu and an amazing hike to Nagarkot. This hike will reward you with breathtaking views of the Himalayas from the viewpoint of Nagarkot. On clear days one can even catch a glimpse of the world's tallest mountain, Mount Everest. The next day, you'll wake up early in the morning, at 4 am, to admire the mesmerizing sunrise view from Nagarkot viewpoint. Later, enjoy a beautiful hike to Changunarayan and drive back to Kathmandu.

Sunrise View from Nagrkot
Today, we will start the day with a short drive to Sankhu, an ancient Newari town, and start the hike to Nagarkot. The walk from Sankhu to Nagarkot is short yet rewarding. The trail is easy and entails a gradual climb after an hour of hiking. Make sure to take breaks and drink water. Enjoy walking on the tree-lined single track; after some time, you will reach your destination for the day.

Changunarayan Temple - a UNESCO world heritage site in Nepal
You will begin the day with a short drive from your hotel at around 4:30 am to admire mesmerizing sunrise from Nagarkot viewpoint. Nagarkot is a popular hill station in Nepal situated at an altitude of 2,175m. Next, we hike to Changunarayan for about 4-5 hours. The hiking trail passes through Telkot village, inhabited by Tamang and Newari communities. You will reach the hilltop temple of Changunarayan, a UNESCO world heritage site in Nepal. After exploring the ancient temple, you will take a drive from Changunarayan to Kathmandu.
