Brief Itinerary

Day Highlights
Day 1 Kakani to Gurje Bhanjyang Hiking

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1
Kakani to Gurje Bhanjyang Hiking

At around 8:00 AM, we will pick you up from your hotel stay. As the day gets older, the views of the peaks also start fading away. Therefore, it is best to start the trip early in the morning.

Drive from Kathmandu to Kaule, Kakani (1 Hour, 26 Km)

An hour drive takes you from Kathmandu to Kaule, Kakani. Along the way, you can see the cityscape transforming into green fields. You can click pictures of the beautiful hills and the distant village lifestyle in the serene greenery. On reaching our starting point in Kakani, you can see different trout farms and strawberry crops planted by farmers from a distance. The Langtang Range is also distinctly visible.

Kakani is one of the most convenient settlements around the Kathmandu Valley. It is famous for picnic spots surrounded by dense forests of rhododendron, oak and pine, Japanese strawberries, and the cultivation of other crops.

Have some tea/coffee, then prepare for your actual hike in Kakani.

Hiking  from Kakani to Gurje Bhanjyang (5 - 6 hours)

You can begin your hike to the Mountain Memorial Park in Kakani, built to give limelight and respect to deceased mountaineers by the Nepal Mountaineering Association. You can have a cup of tea here and prepare for hiking in the jungles of Kakani.

Hiking until the checkpoint is uphill is a little difficult, but it becomes easier and enjoyable throughout the rest of the trail. It is a completely different feeling while hiking on this trail surrounded by dense forests of oak and rhododendron with views of snow-capped mountains in the distance. You will pass by settlements and can see farmers cultivating crops. If you are lucky, then you might be able to help them in strawberry picking in the right season.

Kakani is famous for its rainbow trout, homemade strawberries, and rhododendron-flavored liquor, so be sure to buy some from the local market. You can also intermingle with the locals and learn about the Tamang lifestyle. Imagine having your lunch surrounded by astounding views of Annapurna Range, Mt. Manaslu, Mt. Langtang, Mt. Gaurishankar, and Ganesh Himal.

You can also take a short walk to the Thai Memorial Park, which was named to commemorate the victims of the fatal 1992 Thai Airlines crash in Nepal.

Finally hike to Gurje Bhanjyang via Suryachaur and get transport back to Kathmandu.

Drive from Gurje Bhanjyang back to Kathmandu (1 Hour, 20 Km)

Following your hike, you will drive back to your hotel in Kathmandu. Be sure to collect souvenirs and click a few photos for memories before leaving Gurje Bhanjyang and Kakani, as it supports the local economy. After a long day, your trip is finally over after reaching your hotel.

Useful Tips

It is advised not to hike during the Monsoon season as the earthen trail becomes muddy. The best seasons for Kakani Hiking are certainly the spring and autumn, lasting from March to May and September to November, respectively.

Everything was good enough to recommend them for day hike. The tour guide was expereiced and Naba himself was in contact for the day. We knew it was going to be a great day because Naba ensured us. Kakaki short hike

After completing my Annapurna Base Camp trek I had two days on my hand to go for this hike around Kathmandu. Suggested by Naba I booked this hike with Third Rock and headed to the beautiful place in Kathmandu called Kakani. I was kinda tired of car horn and busy streets so I hit the trail of Kakani and had amazing view of the mountain from there. Hiked for around 6 hours and it was among the best day in Nepal.
