Champadevi Hiking Trail - 1 day

Champadevi Hiking Trail - 1 day

Get on the Champadevi Hiking Trail for an adventurous day hike to the third highest hill in Kathmandu. Hike to Champa Devi Hill and get to the top of one of the highest hills in Kathmandu valley. Lying at an elevation of 2,278 meters, Champa Devi is the valley’s third-highest hill. It is named after Champa Devi, the patron goddess of the hill who protects the forest and the surrounding area. A shrine dedicated to the goddess lies at the summit. There is also a Buddhist monastery en route. Located towards the south of the capital, one can enjoy delightful views of Kathmandu valley by following the Champadevi Hiking Trail. In autumn and winter, the summit offers magnificent views of the Himalayan peaks. Gauri Shankar, Dorje Lakpa, Langtang Lirung, etc., are some of the peaks that can be viewed from the top on a clear day.

We start our journey from central Kathmandu with a drive towards the southwestern end of the city. After driving for about an hour, we approach Chovar. We take the rough track leading to Hattiban Resort. Once we reach the resort’s gate, we begin our hike to Champa Devi. The Champadevi Hiking Trail inches upwards to a dense pine forest decorated with colorful Buddhist prayer flags. The path is well marked with well-placed stone steps going all the way to the top. For experienced hikers, this is an easy walk. But for those who have little experience, the climb may prove a little strenuous.

Take a breather once in a while and soak in the views of the verdant hills and the valley as you follow the Champadevi Hiking Trail and make your way up to the summit. After hiking for about three hours, we reach the top. Enjoy views of the mesmerizing Taudaha Lake, surrounding rural settlements, and the whole of Kathmandu valley.  We take pictures and enjoy our picnic lunch. After soaking in the views, we take the same path down to the resort and drive back to our hotel in Kathmandu.

Beautiful Hike near Kathmandu

We hiked to Champadevi Trail and it was a beautiful hike. The view was absolutely amazing. Our tour guide was helpful and had great deal of info for the hike. We hiked from the way down before reaching the Hattiban resort. The trail was serene with much of Nepali teen hikers. We met two Russian hikers on the way. Our tour guide carried two litre water just for us. We had time so we also hiked upto Bhasmasur. It was great experience.

Champa Devi Hiking - Great views, amazing experience!

I had two extra days from my EBC Trek. We had kept these as contingency days, in case of an emergency. Luckily nothing untoward happened and our trek went smoothly. But we were left with two extra days in Kathmandu. Since I had already visited the cultural sites and historical monuments, I was keen on doing something different. While browsing for an interesting day trip, I stumbled across this Chamapdevi Hike offered by Third Rock Adventures. It seemed like an interesting day trip. I decided to give it a go and booked this trip. We started after breakfast and drove towards the outskirts of the city. It was lovely getting outside the city. There were five of us, including our guide Ramesh. After walking through the EBC trail, this seemed like a cakewalk. It was an easy walk up the stone steps. The path was covered with pine trees. At the top there is a religious shrine. The views of the lake and the surrounding areas were awesome. Overall it was a great experience. It felt good to get out from the chaos of the city. It was very green and serene out there. I would recommend this hike to anyone who wants to get out from the city and is looking for a day hike. And by the way book this hike with Third Rock Adventures. These guys really listen to you and take good care of you.
I liked the itinerary.
Because I was interested in hiking around the city.
The walk up the hill was enjoyable.
If you are looking for a short day adventure in Kathmandu, this is the adventure for you.
